My kid is a fan of this Gulab Jamun recipe. In his birthday I make this recipe. He likes to distribute to his friends. Some times he only makes this dish only for 4 members. Probably we make three to four type of jamuns. The beauty of this jamuns comes from sugar syrup, safron strands and some dried fruits. This Jamun must soak nicely with sugar syrup then only you can get the real taste.

All of you know how to make gulab jamun. Isn’t it? You go to the market , bringing some ready made jamun mix and you make jamun and bla bla bla….Ok well in case if you don’t want to buy from the market, still you can prepare jamun at your home easily. Let me tell you one thing. Here I am going to prepare dessert dishes in 2 ways. That’s from sweet potatoes and milk powder!? Surprised? Yes foodies…you can prepare different types of dessert dishes through varieties of ingredients which are available in our own kitchen. Let us know two kinds of jamun which is I am going to make now.

Sweet potato Gulab Jamun:


  • Boiled sweet potatoes – 3
  • Refined flour – 1 cup
  •  Cardamom powder – 1 table spoon
  • Sugar syrup – 3 cups
  • Water as required
  • Almonds – 3 for garnishing
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Rose water – 1-2 table spoon

Cooking Method:

  • Take big bowl and put boiled sweet potatoes and mash it well.
  • Add refined flour and cardamom powder, squeeze and mix until you get dough.
  • Water is not required as boiled potatoes consisting water. If needed you can add little water or milk while preparing dough.
  • Next let it be in rest for minimum 30 minutes.
  • Then make small balls from that dough by using oil and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and deep fry those balls.
  • Put those balls in sugar syrup and add rosewater to the bowl. Let it soak for 30 to 45 minutes and then take those jamuns in serving bowl, garnish with almond chops and serve.

Milk Powder Gulab Jamun:


  • Milk powder – 1 cup
  • Refined flour – 1 cup
  • Yogurt – 1 cup
  • Ghee – 2 table spoon
  • Cardamom powder – 1 table spoon
  • Baking soda – little

Cooking Method:

  • Take bowl and add above said ingredients and mix well.
  • Make nice dough from those ingredients and keep it in rest for 30 minutes or more.
  • Make small balls from that dough and fry it and pour those balls in sugar syrup.
  • Let it be soaked for minimum half an hour or more.
  • Garnish with kesar or any dry fruits and serve it.
